KISS. Keep it straight and simple. My Print Media professor back in uni would always tell us that. Avoid the fuss and focus on what matters. If I’ll put into words how my initial impression of Warwick’s Lazy Brunch at L’Auberge, I’ll borrow this acronym from him. KISS.
In September, I went to review Warwick’s other restaurant, Carisma which to be honest, delivered a rather underwhelming first impression. Taking that experience into consideration, I went to L’Auberge with modest expectation. After my last write up which might be too honest for comfort, I wasn’t expecting another invite from Warwick at all. I’m surprised they did.
L’Auberge Lazy Brunch
Located on the 1st floor, L’Auberge is Warwick’s All Day dining restaurant that offers buffet breakfast, business lunches, and themed-night dinners. I must say that the place is modest and can accommodate a lot of diners even if it gets busy.
The Lazy Brunch offers a decent and straightforward International buffet spread. The basics are all covered ranging from soup, salads, mezze, mains, and of course, dessert. Despite being a scaled down brunch buffet, the selection remains respectable. Without being too fussy, you can’t complain about what is being offered. It ticks off every box well and delivers what matters.
I particularly enjoyed the mains station which offers rich Butter Chicken, savory Beef Slices, Gnocchi, and even Seafood Gratin. If there’s one advantage of having a small buffet selection is that you can easily cover everything and taste every dish with minimal effort. And going for the nth round (should you enjoy it that much) is easy breezy too!
In most cases, I would normally skip dessert as I am already full to the rim. But this time, I didn’t let the dainty dessert station be missed. Several rows of cake slices, mousse, Arabic sweets, flan and even creme brulee are all waiting to be devoured. My pick: the decadent chocolate mousse.
While it is easy to say that the selection might be too modest and limited to be called as brunch buffet (more of like a Business Lunch), one must consider the price tag this Lazy Brunch asks. Its strength lies not only on the food but on price as well. Priced at QAR 50, it is one of the better deals in the local Dining scene. With that same price of an average fast food meal, you have a decent buffet spread (full course) which clearly aims for the budget-conscious diners. There might be a couple of things that need some tweaking, but it is easily forgivable if you factor in how much you are paying for.
My experience was overall pleasing than the last time I visited Warwick. Keeping it simple and straightforward made the price even more reasonable. If you’re on a look-out for a place to have a meal on a weekend other than your usual stand-alone go-to place, you might want to consider this Lazy Brunch L’Auberge is offering.
