Float in the Dead Sea.
Learn a New Language.
Skydive on my 31st.
Set foot on every continent.
My childhood has been filled with things I wanted to try and goals (both long and short term) that I aspire to accomplish. I didn’t even know (yet) that it was called “Bucket List” but I already have it (full to the rim).
One by one, I work hard to tick them off. It keeps me motivated and excited every day. Bucket list doesn’t need to be grand or expensive. Big or small, they are equally valuable as it gives a sense of accomplishment. And just like a literal bucket, I keep filling them once I am running low.
The City Center Rotana Summer Bucket List
In my previous post, I’ve shared my staycation experience with City Center Rotana and I gave five valuable reasons why it is a great summer destination for you too. And in true bucket fashion, here are the must-try things when you go for your next staycation. Let’s call it the City Center Rotana Summer Bucket List.
1. Challenge Accepted
I’ve been a regular patron of this sports pub for a while now and why not? It has all the good reasons for you to try and go back over and over. Great food, reasonable price, relaxed and lively ambiance. It’s a great hangout place for after work catch-up or even for casual dinner.
Dare the Dynamite
Ever heard of the popular Chef’s Challenge? It is a Bostons staple where every month, Chef is throwing a challenge to all foodies (and none- yet) to dare themselves and go big. If you’ve missed last month’s Burger Tower Challenge, don’t fret. This month, the Chef is calling you to try The Spicy Prawns Challenge.
For the record, I tried it and failed big time. Generally, I can’t eat without a glass of water on stand by because I like taking a sip in between to clear my palette. The prawns are well seasoned and mind you, even if you fail and end up paying the meal, it is still worth the price. Despite the novelty of being a challenge, the prawns are decent and well presented.
By the MEAT-er
If prawns are too much for you, give the meter sausage a try. Choose between chicken or veal sausage which comes with a selection of condiments including caramelized onions and mustard among others.
Burgers for your Beer
Also, Bostons also currently offers Burgers Around the World selection which includes:
- Taste of South Asia
- Moroccan Lamb Burger
- Mexican Juicy Lucy Burger
- Gnocco Fritto
- French Favorites
Among the choices, I opted to try the Morrocan Lamb. Having been in the Gulf for a long while now, it tasted quite familiar as it is close to having a kofta burger perfectly seasoned and compliments the crispy lettuce and fresh tomatoes.
2. Top up your Tan
This summer, top up that tan and stay in shape with City Center Rotana’s Pool Pass promotion. For only QAR 599, you can have unlimited pool access for a month. Beat the summer heat and cool off in the temperature-controlled pools. Promotion is valid until 31st of August so you better hurry!
3. Teatro Friday Brunch
One of the things I learned to love and embraced being in Qatar is the brunch culture. I became a fan of this kind of social gatherings where I can have great food, a relaxed environment with the company of my friends. While some might say it is an excuse to drink and get drunk during the day, well, I am an adult anyway. It’s a grown up thing.
If you are looking for something different from your typical brunch set up, Teatro has recently started their Friday Brunch which promises a theatrical experience like no other. Unlike most brunches around town, Teatro’s is more sophisticated yet relaxed. There is no lavish buffet or extensive spread but instead, there is a set menu where you will have taste sampler of everything that is on offer and five live stations which you can check in between your food.
Keeping the Quality
Executive Chef Matias Ayala shares that they aim to bring the best of what Teatro has to offer and known for. Popular to its fusion of Eastern and Western cuisines and an upscale setting, their Friday Brunch reflects Teatro’s keen eye to details and perfection. Instead of an open spread buffet, they want diners to enjoy and be more relaxed as food will be served to their table instead of walking to and fro across the room for a piece of lobster or any dish they want to try. He also added that they want to maintain the high quality of food and service Teatro is known for even on a brunch setting so you will still feel like having an a la carte dish.
Hats off to all the chef who collaborated on the menu as it showcases the best from the East and West which will take you to a delightful gastronomic journey.
Mini Cold Dishes
Mini Hot Dishes
Apart from the set menu, there are five live stations available:
- Thai Curries
- Mushroom Risotto
- Oyster and Sushi
- Meat Carving
- Liquid Nitrogen Ice Cream
It was quite an interesting dining experience combining the eclectic ambiance and the lively house music from the DJ who was spinning the entire afternoon. Whoever says that Teatro is just for dates and romantic dinners, you can add “cool brunches” too.
Available every second Friday of the month.
Time: 12: 30 PM to 4:00 PM
Price: QAR 250 (including soft beverages)/ QAR 350 (including wines and spirits)
4. Go Brunchin’ Mediterranean Style at Olive Oil
If you missed the Teatro Brunch, Olive Oil offers an equally scrumptious feast every Friday. The theme: Mediterranean. If you are heavy on seafood and greens, this Brunch would best suit you.
During my stay, I decided to give it a go and took a closer look at what is being offered.
The spread is decent and offers international cuisine aside from the banner Mediterranean. Arabic, Indian, Spanish, Sushi, Pasta and Dessert stations are available across the entire restaurant. I would suggest to take your time and check the entirety of the place first before you start digging in.
Sangria and cocktail station is also available.
It is highly advised to call for a reservation as it gets busy and finding a seat for your and your friends might be challenging if you decide to come without a reservation.
Available every Friday.
Time: 12: 30 PM to 4:00 PM
Price: QAR 199 (including soft beverages)
5. Breakfast in Bed
And of course, one of my personal bucket list will always be having breakfast served in bed after a good night sleep. I decided to order for in-room service during my stay to check if it is worth recommending.
I guess the photos speak for itself.
The menu is decent and modestly priced. My order came in after 15 minutes which is relatively quick. Serving size is great and my eggs were on point when I particularly mentioned that I want my yolks to be runny.
