Five Reasons Why City Center Rotana Doha is Your Summer Staycation Destination

Fact: It’s August. We are already on the 8th month and past half of 2017. Can you believe that?

As the scorching heat of summer continues, and Eid Al Adha is just a few weeks away, time is indeed running very fast. Have you planned your holidays yet? Is the current blockade still messing up your travel itinerary? While I had an amazing R&R in Thailand last June during the first Eid, I decided to stay for Adha since my leave allowance is relatively short. In other words, I’ll be staycationing in Doha by the end of the month. But before you give me that pity look or “It’s OK” pat on the back, let me set it straight: Staying in Doha (even with the current political situation) isn’t a bad idea at all. Staycation can still be awesome. Been there, done that.

One of Doha’s leading luxury hotel, City Center Rotana Doha recently invited me to stay over the weekend and alas, I got myself a preview of how my upcoming Eid staycation will be. Here are 5 reasons why you should book your next stay at CCRD:

1. Prime Location

Nestled in the heart of Doha’s business district and 25 minutes away from the new Hamad International Airport, City Center Rotana is a smart choice for travelers both for leisure and business. When everything that you need is within reach, what more can you ask for?

City Center Rotana Doha is connected to the shopping mall and a few steps away from the new Doha Exhibition and Convention Center. (image from: Google Maps)

If you’re in town for business meeting or conference, the Doha Exhibition Center is just across the street. Your all important business deal is just minutes away as most business offices are in one of the skyscrapers along West Bay.

For leisure travelers and staycationers (like myself), the convenience of having your hotel connected to a mall (City Center Mall Doha) is indeed heaven sent. I’ve always dreamed of having a mall and a hotel next to each other when I was younger. Little did I know, such thing does exist. Whether you are into shopping, staying for the last full show at the cinema, or even doing your weekly groceries, there’ll be less room for worry and stress as you can opt to stay over night within walking distance.

The passage way to and from the mall is located at the second floor.

Other Doha attractions such as The Museum of Islamic Arts and Souq Waqif are 15 minutes away by car. Or if you are feeling adventurous, you can go for an early morning jog or late evening walk to and from the hotel. The choice is yours. A good sweat and light cardio while enjoying the picturesque city is not a bad idea after all.

2. Panoramic Views and Spacious Rooms

As a backpacker for years, I’ve gotten used to not-so-comfy sleeping situations. I would share a room with 4 or 8 persons in a hostel or even stay on a stranger’s couch (through CouchSurfing). Hotels, let alone a 5-star one normally happens when I’m traveling with my parents.

I stayed in Club Rotana Premium room where I’ve been greeted by a scenic panoramic view of Doha skyline.

Weekend fit for the King. I had the entire 50 meters of the room all to myself.
The ceiling to floor glass windows gives the best panoramic view of the city.
And the best view of the skyscrapers of Doha.
Loo is tidy and well-equipped.
And offers not just your typical Brand X toiletries. Yes, I took them home with me.
Fluffy towels. My Pack Towl (micro-fibre) which has been with me for every travel will rest at least for this stay.

The Club Rotana

Aside from the spacious room (and King-size bed), it gives me access to the exclusive Club Rotana lounge where (like those business lounges at the airport) you can have a quiet time to do your business related needs, read, and enjoy a free flow of coffee and pastries.

Club Rotana is located at the 24th floor (one floor up from where I was staying).
Free flow of tea, coffee and sandwiches all day.
It is so conducive for you to read your favorite book, or catch the latest news.
Need a room for an emergency meeting? They got you covered.
It is pretty and spacious during the day.
But even prettier at night.

Club Rotana Lounge is located at the 24th floor and is open from 6AM until 11 PM.

If the Club Rotana Premium room is not your cup of tea, there are 381 other guest rooms to suit your needs and budget. Each one is equipped with top notch in-room facilities and that floor to ceiling glass window. There’s no way for you to miss that amazing sun-sea-city view of Doha.

3. Foodie Paradise

Hungry? Unfortunately, there’s no room for that at CCRD. The hotel offers 7 distinct dining venues to suit all your cravings. It is indeed a foodie haven.

Truth be told, I’ve been to 6 of these 7 restaurants. The 7th (Sama Lounge) is yet to open.

So what are the remaining 6?

Caramel Lobby Lounge Cafe

Remember my High Tea post in April? Have you tried it yet?

Located at the Ground floor, this gourmet coffee shop offers an assortment of espresso, coffee, tea, and a wide array of sandwiches and salads. They also offer an amazing high tea experience every Thursday and Saturday which I shared recently.

During my stay, I tried their Friday Seafood Brunch which I will be sharing my review on a separate post soon.

Because flavor knows no region and direction. Traveling from East to West and back, all the yummy goodness are all here.

Unwind and catch your favorite game with friends over a pint of beer or two. Bostons offers a variety of sumptuous dishes to relax and fill that growling tummy. It is home to the famous Chef’s Challenge every month (Burger Tower etc). I recently tried their burgers, and franks along side with popular items from their menu and I will be sharing an in-depth look on a separate post. And yes, I took part of their Chef’s Challenge for this month!

Upping the ante of your favorite Lebanese dishes while maintaining that authentic taste, Misk is something you shouldn;t miss(-k).

Misk offers a variety of authentic Lebanese and Arabic dishes from the rich Levant culture. If you are flying in and craving for Arabic dishes, look no further.

I decided to have my dinner over at Misk and I’ll share my experience in another post coming this week.

Misk is open from Tuesday to Sunday for dinner and is closed on Mondays from 6:30 pm until 2:00 am.

Aquarius

Situated at the 7th floor, grab your favorite cooler here.

Bask in the sun while sipping your favorite cocktail at Aquarius Pool Bar. Dubbed as a dining oasis, it is surrounded by the “Doha Skyline” for a relaxing staycation right in the middle of the city. They offer light snacks best paired with a refreshing drink under a sun shade.

Opening Hours:
From 9 AM until 6 PM

Whew! That was a mouthful. Surely, hunger and starvation is non-existent at CCRD.

4. Family Friendly Amenities

This I’ve got to say is what impressed me the most. Staycations are best done with families and of course, each member has its own needs. The hotel understands these needs and their amenities will cater to everyone, no matter what age group.

Bodylines Fitness & Wellness Club Spa for Mom and Gym for Dad.

My stay so limited and I have a lot to cover for me to have a massage, let alone burn the calories from all the food I ate.

Outdoor Swimming Pools and Kids Pool

Brave the Doha heat and top that golden tan by the pool side.
Kids have their own pool too.

If Mom and Dad would like to have some romantic date night, Babysitting service is also available on request.

Special Needs

Props to their attention to details and sensitivity to guests with special needs. City Centre Rotana Doha ensures the safety and comfort of every guest. Among these features are as follows:

  • Lowered access for room amenities and mini bar items

  • Grab bar for toilet
  • Lowered wash basin
  • Emergency pull cord in toilets
  • Staff proficient in sign language
Room Numbers are also available in Braille.
Easy to reach handles and towels.
Lowered access to amenities.

5. Affordable Rates

Of course, the best staycation will always be the one where you get your money’s worth. City Center Rotana offers the best bang for your buck with affordable rates. This August, room rate starts at QAR 550* inclusive of the following:

  • Complimentary breakfast for two persons

Make new memories that will last a lifetime, right at the center of Doha.
